In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, Tessie Hutchinson is
blamed for all the problems in her village. She is stoned to death!
Do you think that people often blame others?
Do you think this sort of lottery could take place in our community? E
Explain.
Noah Davis-H.
ReplyDeleteI think that people blame people very often. It happens every day. People blame others for a lot of reasons, even if its for a little thing. Blaming people doesnt mean youre blaming someone because they did something that people consider bad or wrong.
You could blame someone for something good.
I do not think that this kind of lottery could happen in our (my community, Ile Perrot) community, because nobody would agree with this kind of lottery, and if people who have a lot of power try to force us, there could be a fight, or the population could take by force.
I dont think you should be able to make someone do something that they dont want to do.
I would never take part in this kind of lottery if there was actually a lottery like this.
agree with "if people who have more power try to fore us there could be fights" very true.
Delete'' You could blame someone for something good'' was a nice line
Deletei strongly agree with you noah, one yes it is true that people can be blamed for good thing to and that you're community probably won't agree with the lottery.

ReplyDeleteI do think people blame other people very often for various reasons. Some people blame others for things that they did wrong. Probably because they don't want to admit they did something wrong and they don't want others to look at them differently so they choose to blame others. Others blame people for being bad luck because that's the only explanation they have for there unluckiness.
I absolutely believe that a lottery like this will they ever happen in our community for multiple reasons such as:
1. People might agree with the lottery and others will not and it will start a small civil war.
2. Killing people for a piece of paper with a dot will cause people to believe it's okay to murder other people.
3.This kind of lottery would cause so much chaos that people will question wether they should come and live in our community and they will probably move to someone safer where taking a piece of paper with a dot will not end your life.
and 4. If this kind of activity were to actually take place in our community a lot of people will not feel the need to obey the laws. I mean if people are allowed to stone people to death we might as well rob a bank or steal a car it beats killing someone and watching them die slowly.
*will never happen*... oops
DeleteI agree with the fact that you said it might cause a civil war.

DeleteI think your point about killing people for a piece of paper with a dot is absolutely true. I think that not a lot of people can make important decisions or/and are to afraid to take a stand against what they think is wrong.

ReplyDeleteI do think that people often blame others for things they didn't do. People do so because they don't want everyone to think different or bad about them. The only way they find is blame others.
I don't think this sort of lottery can take place in our community, because we already have a lottery system that well organized and professionally handled. Also stoning people was something that happened back in the day. If any government or individuals stone people for winning a lottery today i'm pretty sure other countries would involve and try to stop it.
I strongly agree with how ''people do so because they dont wat everyone to think different or bad about them''
Deletei agree with abandon on that one ;p
DeleteI totally agree with you, a lot people are afraid to be judged by others.
DeleteI believe that very often people blame each other for something that has went wrong in there life which I believe is wrong.People often blame people they usually dont like or dont care about so they wont get in trouble but the person they blame will get in trouble.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this sort of lottery would never take place in our community because of the laws we have and how were not allowed to hurt others in any physical way. Also im sure that if we did have a lottery like that in our community it wouldnt last long because many people would protest.
I definetely think not just ours, but any community would last with this sort of lottery taking place
DeleteAgree with the fact that a lot of people will protest if that happens
DeleteI totally forgot about the laws about not killing and stuff like that, but in some parts of America, they still have the electric chair. It might not happen in our community, but it could happen in theirs.

DeletePeople blame other people for everything, its part of our everyday life. Some people blame the human race for global warming and others blame god. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that people get blamed for things they did or didn't do and its part of this world and our lives and that's something that can't change.
ReplyDeleteI do not think a lottery like this one would work in our community, because its against the law to sentence someone to death, and its not right to stone someone for something they most likely didn't do. This world or community might not be perfect and its what we have , so lets please not make it worse by letting random innocent people be killed by somewhat sane people for some stupid reason or no reason at all.
I really like the fact that you used such a personal point of view in your blog and didn't generalize. You wrote your point of view on the matter and not what "people" think about the situation. I also agree with what you had to say.
DeleteI agree with you Reilly when you talk about how people blame global warming on God or humanity. I think if you are ignore a problem that you can help fix, then you say that a different persone could have fixed the problem then I count it asblaming and it is a harmful way of dealing with the problem at hand.
DeleteI agree that "its part of this world and our lives and that's something that can't change".
DeleteI agree with you, that part about global warming is interesting.
DeleteGood points, but the human race is still to blame for global warming but its not entirely our fault
DeleteAlthough most of the time it's wrong, people blame others, even though it wasn't their fault. If someone is having a bad day or things just haven't been going well for them in general, don't be surprised that this person chooses to blame someone else for what is happening to them. Some people have trouble accepting reality. Now, if I for example choose to blame someone for something HE or SHE did wrong to prevent it from happening again in the future, then I wouldn't consider blaming them a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteThis lottery reminds me of the Middle Ages, where women use to be stoned to death because they were thought to be witches, control dark magic and cast curses on people. It's a very barbaric way of living. Killing is illegal, it's as simple as that. We live in a society with rules and something that is so cruel like this lottery wouldn't even cross the governments mind to possibly apply.
I agree with the fact that ILias said that people sometimes are having a bad day and happen to blame others when not their fault and that all he said was basically true about killing others.
DeleteI like how Ilias(Black Savage) gets straight to the point and says "killing is illegal, it's as simple as that" he says it the way it is and he makes his point clear.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely people blame others for tones of reasons maybe they don't like them or some just have the fear of getting in trouble because all of the bad things that could happen to them if they did get caught.
ReplyDeleteI don't think our community could have this sort of lottery because back then, not a lot of interesting stuff happened so they needed something look forward to to grab their attention. Now days there is so much stuff that goes on in our life's that all we need to stay attentive is a phone. So no, I don't think having a lottery in any type of community these days would make any sense.
I strongly agree with how people did this type of lottery back then for entertainment and how people's attentiveness has changed a lot since then.

I don’t think it matters who you are or what you have done, everybody gets blamed multiple times in their lives. There is just way too many people out there that are not able to stick up for what they have done whether they had done it or not; therefore these people just make life easier for themselves and blame it on the others.
In my opinion, I don't believe that this kind of lottery would ever be able to take place in the community that I live in, since it involves violence and in the year we live in, violence is not the answer when it comes to solving problems. I also think this could never take place in my community because everybody is civilised.
I strongly agree with you that violence is not the answer
DeleteYes I agree with the fact that everyone at a certain point in time
ReplyDeleteblames another person on something that has nothing to do with them, its something that happens to everyone when they are stressed, mad, sad ect.
I really don't think that this sort of thing would happen i our community considering the fact that we are smarter and that we know better. But maybe in the States with Donald Trump running the country.
I agree, emotions do effect what people do, sometimes even blaming others. Lets all hope Donald trump doesn't get elected.
DeleteI definitely think people blame others for many different things. I think people mostly blame others because they don't want to get in trouble for something or they hate someone and blame them. Blaming each other happens a lot with kids and adults.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't think this lottery could ever take place in our community because it would be illegal to do that kind of act and now days we have a lot of rules. If it were to happen I think a lot of people would be against it.
Blaming people is natural and is a fight or flight reaction. It happened in the pass and it will happen again. For example let's say you and your cave buddies decided that it's about time to go woolly mammoth hunting. As the natural procrastinator of this group project you decide that it's not worth your time and effort to sharpen your spears.
ReplyDeleteSo it's the day of your presentation aka hunting mammoth and you are up first. Now if you would have sharpened you spear like you were supposed to this would be easy and you would knock the mammoth uncouncious. Wow now you just realized you made a big mistake and now the mammoth is pist and is charging you and it will kill you if you don't do something quick. Then out of the corner of your eye you spot Reilly and you think ( hey this situation would be so much better if the mammoth was chasing Reilly)so you run by him and now the mammoth is chasing him. In modern day life this is like telling Reilly that you were told that the work that wasn't done was his work. Now Reilly has three choices 1.give the mammoth back to you 2. Do hand to hand combat with a wolly mammoth or 3. Give the mammoth to another persone he choses 3 and now this process will repeat itself until some snuck deals with mammoth road rage. Congratulations you are fine but Gabriel got run over by a wolly mammoth he dealt with the consequences and is not so fine all because you didn't sharpen your spear.
On the the topic of the seconde question I think that if it was only drug dealers who picked out of the black box I think that society would be okay with that. It's easy because drug dealers are bad people and drugs cause problems so why not just get rid of them. Congradulations you just dehumanized a drug dealer wasn't so bad was it. The fact of the matter is blaming people is easy people were thrown underneath the mammoth back then, people are thrown underneath the bus today and people will be thrown underneath a space craft in the future it's just human nature.
it happens all the time, people wrongfully accuse others for things they didn't do. People don't tell the truth because they're afraid of the consequences.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the second question, i believe that i wouldnt see such a thing in todays society but something that coulve been from the past. While sacrifices are no longer practiced in most places, human sacrifice is something that has completely stopped. I am completely against the idea of sacrifice as it does nothing. There are scientific phenomenon as to why plants dont grow sometimes as well as ways to help them grow stronger and better.
I agree, sacrificing someone wont help the plants grow better.
DeleteIt happens very often blaming others. It happens everyday sometimes you blame someone with out realizing it because it's so easy blaming someone else then saying the truth. Most people are scared of the consequences that will happen if you say that you did or said something.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the second question I wouldn't see this happening in today's society. In the past a lot of people we're beliving things and others weren't. Like for exemple in the past if you didn't think the same as the society then people would start fighting with you or even hurt your family because you didn't believe what others were beliveing in so they thought that you were weird and that you shouldn't think like that. You didn't have the right of thinking your own way. Today it's almost impossible to all agree on one thing. People get into fights and when it's about the society people will protest to give their opinons and will fight because they know they're right.
I agree that blaming others is much easier then blaming yourself or saying the truth
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYes I do believe that people blame others often for anything done unless its in there favor and would help them but not everyone is like this.
ReplyDeleteA lottery like this would not be a good idea because of the hours maybe days taken for this long process and people would get furious because of waiting or being anxious. other then that there would be more violence in Montreal completely changing the way it works
I like how you incorporated the the short story the lottery to further your point and I agree with you statement. So good job sam
DeleteI believe that people often blame others for many reasons. Such as trying to make themselves feel better, when there in a guilty situation, or trying to get out of trouble. There are many circumstances where people might blame others, although it may not be right. Sometimes it's easier to take the blame out on others, then to take the responsibility yourself. This can potentially be problematic and even lead to bullying. For example if the bully did something wrong they would often blame the victim in the situation. If the bully is feeling down or insecure about himself, he may just take it out on others instead of dealing with it himself.
ReplyDeleteThe likely hood of a lottery like this taking place in my city is very low beacuse of the community we live in, although it's not impossible. I think if a lotetery like this were to take place it would be very bad, causing a lot more deaths then needed, and lots of problems. Taking out all your problems on one single person, is not the way not solve them, especially not by killing them.
You made some great points in your blog. I totally agree that having a lottery today would cause too many problems.
DeleteI think that people often blame on other people for many reasons. We don’t want to be blamed or guilty of doing something wrong. We normally try to find reasons or facts to be innocent for a certain problem. Bur
ReplyDeleteThe lottery will certainly not be a normal culture in my community. I believe that my community wouldn’t be cruel to sacrifice someone just to be blamed.
I agree with you, that people when blamed make excuses to cover up their tracks. Your take on this topic was interesting, nice blog! :)
DeleteI think that people often blame others. We usually like to blame others to avoid getting into trouble and to make ourselves look better. For example when siblings fight, they blame each other to avoid getting a punishment from their parents.
ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons as to why it would not be normal to have a lottery in my community today. Today people are far more educated and think way more logical than when they used to stone people to death. Now when we have a problem, we prefer to just talk it out and try to find a solution rather than killing an innocent person for our problems.
Liam Vertolli
ReplyDeleteYes we do blame a lot of people things that they didn't do. I think the reason we do this is because we don't want to get in trouble or to be guilty of something. Also another reason is that it is easier to blame it on someone else than to explain why you did it. They think in their head that it's not the right thing to do but the easiest thing to do and it's a easy way to get out of trouble. So here you have it my thoughts on why people blame others
Liam Vertolli
i agree a lot of people are guilty
Deleteyes a lot of people do get blamed for no reason like someone kills someone else the person that killed didnt get in trouble because he blame it on someone else and know one had proof. in sports lets say someone misses a game winning field goal every one will blame him but he is a better kicker than you so if you tried that means you would have missed it from even farther. blaming people is appart of life
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do think people often blame others. The reason is because when someone does something that is not right they usually tend to get stressed because they know their going to get in trouble for it. So they try to blame it on someone else so they can save themselves, and not get in trouble. What I'm trying to say is that when people get stressed or nervous for doing something bad they want to rely on someone to take all the blame so that it is not on their shoulders anymore.
ReplyDeleteNo, I do not think this sort of lottery could take place in our community, because people these days know that killing is a serious crime and if they did it they would probably get arrested. Thanks to our government crazy things like those wont happen here in Quebec, because they set laws and enforce them so even if they wanted to stone someone they would be to scared to do so. There could be an exception though, if we were raised knowing that stoning and killing people is good, then it would be a hole different story.

ReplyDeleteYes, I do think that people often tend to blame others. I believe that the reason for this is, when people do something they know is wrong they don't want to deal with the consequences of their actions. Blaming your mistakes on others is easier than admitting you made a mistake/bad decision. No, I don't think that a lottery like that would take place in my community because they would comprehend that its illegal to kill people and they would probably think twice before using violence. Now a days people are more educated and don't use violence as a first solution.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNow im not quite sure on the whole "don't use violence as a first solution" for example the wars Caada has done in the middle east the last 10 years but elsewise I 100% agree
DeleteNOTE: Idk why my comment got deleted but... stuff happens i suppose.
ReplyDeleteYes, i really do think people tend to blame others. Hell it happens to me a whole lot of the time. Oh we lost our CS-GO round because you weren't good enough.
"Your not good enough of a healer you made us loose " in overwatch. Do I think a lottery could happen? no. NATO would shut it down faster than how they put sanctions on russia for taking crimea.
