Blog 45 - Monday, April 3, 2017

There will only be ONE (1) blog this week!

Last week, two girls were about to get onto a United flight from Denver to Minnesota.
The girls were friends of an employee for the company!

They were REFUSED at the gate because of their LEGGINGS!
United Airlines felt that they did not represent their company properly!

How do you feel about a DRESS CODE?
Should the airline refuse their boarding?
Should St. Thomas adopt a dress code policy?

Explain.

  1. Honestly I don't give a damn about dress code. I believe everyone should be able to where what ever they willingly please. You should be able to where what you want anywhere you want, I understand that there are things you should. It were at an airport but , but you can should basically where what ever you want.

  2. Tracy Xing,
I think schools do need some dress code but not to strict. I would understand if a school wouldn't let students wear short sorts and are so short they look like an underwear. In my opinion, crop tops and ripped jeans are appropriate for school. Our school is too strict. I think that leggings are even more inappropriate than ripped jeans. Our school should change the dress code.

  3. i do mind about the dress code because i feel like the way that someone is dressed shouldn't affect your education or bring your attention to them. the airline shouldn't have refuse them because its a piece of clothing that just defines your legs. i mean girls should be able to wear things that show off the parts of their beady that they're confident and they love. a lot of people judge about people's appearance and just saying to girls that they're not allowed to wear legging because they're confident in them doesn't make any sense to me. i don't think that st thomas should adopt a dress code policy, like to be honest wear whatever you want and be proud of what you wear.

  4. I feel that there is a lot of discrimination when it comes to a girls dress code. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with wearing leggings, leggings are comfortable and easy to wear to school. Girls cant wear leggings but guys can sag their pants I mean if you ask me that makes no sense at all. I dont even feel that wearing a tank top or a crop top against the dress code. Its just skin! We all have skin its part of a human being. More and more girls are feeling shamed of their body because they do not feel confident in their own skin. That airline should be ashamed there just leggings guys!

  5. I dont really mind having a dress code because people look proper. I don't think that the airline should refuse their boarding because of the leggings. Girls enjoy wearing leggings because they're comfortable and easy to dress with, since they were going on a plane its so simple and comfortable to wear. In my opinion i dont mind if St. Thomas adopta a dress code policy as long as its fair for girls and guys.

    4. Dress codes can do a difference but not much.

  6. I don't care if there is a dress code or not. Honestly uniforms do make look everything look well organised and stuff but I wont mind if their is not a dress code. If the two girls were representing the airline then I do think that it is important to be formal or follow an appropriate dress code that gives the airline a good reputation. St.thomas already has a dress code in which you are not allowed to wear ripped jeans and etc but if they decide to bring uniforms I don't mind.

  7. Being a former student of a private school with uniforms I hate dress codes, they just caused trouble and depression in my old school, where students are given crap if something little on their uniform isn't proper and boys are forced to keep their hair short for no reason. Dress codes also block out extreme piercings, tattoos and hair colors. Besides uniforms are also really expensive, it totaled about 600 dollars for something that would last like a year or two. I think it was stupid that they couldn't board because of leggings. St.Thomas should stay how it is in terms of dress code.

  8. Honestly, not a fan of dress codes what so ever. I get if your at work and you have a dress code i just don't get why you can't wear leggings if it is appropriate for the job. But the airline refusing their entrance is just playing mean. People come in and out of airports. They are trying to get somewhere without any problems. It's a place where people from all around the world come and go and to deny access to two young girls for leggings is preposterous. They should be free to wear what they want as they are not going to a special event, nor are they going somewhere fancy and nice. They don't work for the airline so there is no need to wear something classy. People know they don't work there so they don't need to represent anything but themselves. No one is going to dress up nicely in tight clothes just to go to an airport to travel a plane and let's not forget they are sitting on a plane for god knows how many hours. They want to be comfortable. So it is ridiculous that they are being denied access to their plane flight. I would give them -5 stars if it were a possibility. St Thomas already has a dress code policy although i hate the ripped jean code because i just think it's dumb in general and showing a little skin on the lower leg and knee maybe a bit of our thighs won't cause some sort of sex scene at school. The short shorts and the tanktop/spaghetti strap code is completely understandable. But if they add no leggings into the dress code , one thing is for sure i'm switching schools because i use to wear jeans everyday and my legs literally lost circulation.

    1. Yes I agree their are some sort of regulations that need to apply but ripped jeans and leggings I find are ok and their isn't a need to intervene there and after a certain point the rules become stupid.

  9. I feel that the dress code to me applies and that it matters because there are kids around and if somebody is dressing way to inappropriately then they should be told so but up to certain point. I don't really know because I would need to see what they were dressed like but if they were just leggings then it should be fine and they shouldn't have been stopped. We already have one that is not really all that hard on us but even if we did I wouldn't care because I never wear anything inappropriate.

  10. Honestly I've never been to a school with a strict dress code, but dress codes are so ridiculous i find. Yes it could make your school look proper, but I find that's what separates everyone from who they are. You are able to tell what kind of person someone is by the way they dress. (Sporty, Casual , Elegant...) I don't think the airline should have refused their boarding since they are just leggings. Plus, they didn't even work at the company, they were friends of an employee. I'm just going to take a wild guess here, but doubt anyone knew that they were friends of an employee. I don't think st.t should have a dress code, honesty we're fine the way we are and I'd like it to stay that way.

  11. I honestly would not like a dress code because by dressing how you want it shows a bit of who you are and also in a public school like St.Thomas some parents have better things to use there money on than a dress code. I would really prefer we do not have a dress code at St.Thomas but I would not really mind if we did because, if we had a dress code at St.Thomas it would cost more for our parents and we would all look the same which I find is really not unique because I like seeing what other peoples style is like.Although if we did have a dress code I find we would look more like a sophisticated school but who are we trying to impress.I find that the airlines have no right to refuse there boarding because or leggings because I honestly find leggings one hundred percent appropriate because why not there like a pair of tight jeans the airlines have no right to refuse their boarding because of a pair of pants that people wear everyday.

  12. I think dress codes are sexist. When you read the dress code its catered to men's fashion. Because all men's shorts go to their knees and they don't wear spaghetti straps or crop tops. So it's much easier for the boys in schools to be able to wear what they want but it's like the school is telling us to cover up and when they say that our shirts are to low cut they're actually telling us we look like sluts.

  13. Dress codes are stupid, like everyone should be able to wear what they want, because it shows their personality. I understand that they need to have some rules, like if you come in wearing a crop top that is so short it looks like a bra with rly tight see through leggings for example, I understand that that's not appropriate, but ripped jeans?? Seriously!? That's crazy. They take it too far when it comes to dress codes and I find that so stupid.

    2. I think that an airline refusing people on their plane because of the way they dress is pretty stupid and just mean. What do I think about dress schools in school? well I think that as students we all know the truth that dress codes are pretty pointless and stopping sluts from wearing inappropriate clothing won't stop them from being sexually active with other students. Also me personally I wear clothes that I find comfortable to wear or because they serve a functionality like how track pants dry off quickly which is important to me because I run around in the rain all the time and get soaked and I can't rust walk into math class and leave a puddle in my seat.So ya that's my two cents I think that dress codes are pointless.

  15. I do not really care about a dress code but it would not necessarily mean that the person is stupid. I do not also think because of this that people would not do good. That is not true at all. The fact that two girls were not able to board a plane because of this is actually retarted. Sure a person may not like it but who is he or she the one to choose. If people want to ware what they want let them be even though it could sometimes be overboard, we just need to mind our own business.

  16. Personally I don't think the airline had a right to tell people what to wear and what not to wear. I think that st-Thomas already has a strict enough dress code. As for school uniforms, I can see the benefit of them although I don't want them at my school. In conclusion I think that people should be able to wear whatever they want as long as it isn't too inappropriate.

  17. Personally I think dress codes are pointless. If you want to wear short shorts or a summer dress you have the right to wear whatever you feel. The airport and I and the girls was not right. Like that are commonly worn and to say they don't represent your country properly is unrealistic, because half the population of girls wear leggings. Saint Thomas has a dress code of no ripped jeans. I don't get the point of this dress code. Ripped jeans are not sexual in anyway and I are actually very stylish in today's generation. I think Saint Thomas should remove the dress code and let the students wear whatever they feel. Dress codes codes are unnecessary and they don't let you freely express your sense of style

  18. I think the dress code is useless and should let evryone wear what they want as long as they are wearing something. the flight attendants did break the rules so whathappened was with reason even if the reason is a little useless to be concidered

  19. To be honest I don’t like dress codes. They are restraining and denying people to express who they are with their choice of clothing. At my old elementary school we were forced to wear red, white and navy blue attire and it made everyone look the same like robots even and out of the whole entire school year we only had one day, ONE DAY to wear whatever we wanted. The two women shouldn’t have been refused to board the flight because they were wearing jeggings. I personally don’t have a problem with jeggings, they just look like jeans. If they were wearing really inappropriate clothing then it would be another story and I would've agreed with the people at the gate. NO! First of all why should St Thomas adopt a dress code there is no reason why they should. There should be “dress rules”, the students can wear whatever they like but within reason.

  20. Personally, I don't like the dress code nor do I agree with it. Everyone has there own styles which I think they should be free to express. St. Thomas doesn't need a stricter dress code in my opinion. Those two women shouldn't have been stopped, they were FRIENDS of an employee of the company. Maybe, I would have understood if the company wanted THEIR employees to be representable but the FRIENDS??!!

  21. Honestly I don't like dress codes because I think that students should be allowed to wear what they want to wear. I think that St Thomas has a stupid dress code because it's dumb that they won't allow kids to wear ripped jeans. I mean who cares it's not being rude to anyone. I find it weird that the airline wouldn't let them wear leggings. A lot of women wear leggings and they should be allowed to.

  22. personally I find dress code the stupidest rule ever!! if you made the choice to let your school or company or whatever be uniform free then they should have the right to wear what they want. of course if you take it to far as in wearing something very innapropriate such as like just a bra or something then ya clearly you should get in trouble but leggings really? what are girls these days suppose to wear we can't wear leggings because they show the form of our lower body to much , we can't wear sweat pants because it's sloppy, we can't wear dresses because it's to cold or to formal and we can't wear shorts or skirts because it's innapropriate. in my honest opinion this has gone way to far.

  23. I think dress codes are fine to a certain extent. I think people should have to wear things that are appropriate and proper, but people should have the right to wear things that make them happy or what they feel comfortable in such as leggings. In my opinion these girls shouldn't have been refused since it was what they were comfortable in and they weren't even the employees.

  24. I only think dress codes are totally normal for most jobs, they keep everything professional and appropriate for that work environment. All though, for school I do not feel dress codes are needed, its just school you should always be able to wear whatever you wish. Its not like anyone will come to school naked , everyone has their own boundaries, no need for a dress code.

  25. I think dress codes are stupid because, it is undemocratic. I prevents people to be unique and an individual being. It's like communism, it tries to make everyone the same. The clothing we wear is a prime example of the choices we can make and our freedom of expression. The silencing of this right should be considered unconstitutional as it is a barricade in the path of our goal to achieve a complete democratic state were all are free to express them selves. Therefore I think that dress codes are a hindrance and should be put a stop to.
